F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions:

There are two main areas of FAQs:

1. Class scheduling, flexibility, starting a new class, joining a currently scheduled class.

2. Traveling to and from and what you need when there.

1. Class Scheduling:

Two  students is the minimum to get a class scheduled on the calendar. After that, up to four students may join that class.

Solo Students looking to book dates not currently scheduled should let us know as early as possible. With enough time we can usually match up solo students and schedule a class. Click Here

Groups of four or more may be best served by booking the whole boat. Options are endless, set your itinerary, customize which class are taken, bring along non-students, etc. See the Charter Page for more information.

Text Books are included in the price and are sent out within 36 hours of your receiving your deposit.

2. Travel/Arrival/When There

American Yacht Harbor
Smith Bay Rd

Delta, American, Spirit and United are the main airlines in to St Thomas. The Airport Code is STT.
Unless meeting Capt Peter in St Croix as some may do from time to time (this option is worked out well
in advance).

Transportation?

Taxi Vans at Airport. Tell them you are going to American Yacht Harbor. $15 per person. $2 per
large bag (sometimes). About a 25 minute ride from the airport.

Contact #s when you arrive?

IF you have not received your Capt’s number already contact the Main Office: (805) 650 2048 or (805) 850 8135
or Capt Steven Ginger: (340) 244 7314.
Please Call your Capt/Instructor when you have landed.

Aboard the boat?

You will find your own private cabin with private head (bathroom) and shower. We provide beach
and bath towels, soap, snorkel equipment and all of your navigation tools. We always have breakfast
aboard, lunch usually, dinner – sometimes all, sometimes none – Depends on the group.

Contact with the Outside World?

AT&T is good in all the USVIs about 75% of the British VIs. Verizon has good roaming coverage
but it is $1.99 a minute to talk but .05 incoming and .50 outgoing to text. Data is $10 (or is it $25!?)
per mb BUT, call them and pay $25 for a 100 mb plan. Please call your cell carrier to see what they
offer in detail. We have internet about every 2-3 days.

Must Bring?

Your Passport, Personal toiletries, any medications or other items you would normally travel with.
Sunscreen.

Suggested?

Bathing suits, shorts, light shirts (some long sleeved), flip-flops/sandals (for going ashore),
sunglasses, hat and a very light sweatshirt/hoodie if between the months of December and March.
Though not essential, whatever you bring, pack it in soft luggage (duffle/backpack) if you have it.
This is easier to store in our limited space. There is room for roll-ons w/o too much trouble.

Optional?

Sailing gloves. Your favorite music (IPhone plugs in to our stereo). Personal Snorkel gear if you have a favorite mask or fins.
